The secret power of workplace content.

Greetings, HR Pros! Madeleine Albright was born on this day in 1937. The first female secretary of state once offered some sage advice for anyone trying to get their point across in a crowded all-hands meeting: “If you’re going to interrupt, you have to know what you’re talking about. And you have to do it in a strong voice.”

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok, you’ve probably seen Natalie Marshall.

Marshall, also known by her social media personality, Corporate Natalie, frequently pokes fun at corporate worklife and even some HR norms. She started her TikTok page in 2020 as a way to laugh through the pain of the pandemic-era world of work, Marshall told HR Brew, at a time when she was 23 and working as a Deloitte consultant.

“This concept of making fun of work from home was new, and people were latching on to that at that time, because it was like, ‘Wow, we’re allowed to talk about our employers in this way? We’re allowed to poke fun at this?’” Marshall said. “I think everyone just wanted to share a laugh at that time.”

Marshall left her job at Deloitte in late 2020 to dedicate more time to content creation. Five years later, she’s running three businesses, including her social media brand, a podcast called Demoted with fellow workplace content creator Ross Pomerantz, and Expand VA, a virtual assistant platform for content creators.

The Trump administration is reconsidering a Biden-era rule that would’ve extended overtime pay to millions of workers.

In an April 24 filing, the Department of Labor (DOL) asked the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to temporarily suspend its appeals in two cases challenging the rule, which was finalized in April 2024.

The DOL said it was moving to hold off on these appeals pending the agency’s reconsideration of the rule challenged in these cases.

What the overtime rule would’ve done. The Biden-era rule raised the salary threshold for white-collar (i.e. executive, administrative, and professional) employees to qualify for overtime from $35,568 to $58,656. The change was expected to extend overtime pay to an additional 4 million workers.

It’s an AI professional’s world, and we’re just living in it.

AI is all the rage in the job market right now. An analysis by CBRE found that AI job listings comprised 14.3% of all US tech talent jobs as of June 2024, an uptick from 8.8% in late 2019.

However, demand for talent with ripe AI skills currently outweighs the supply. IT Brew previously reported that 62% of executives blamed a lack of talent and skills for their company’s inability to make progress on AI initiatives, despite AI and GenAI being top tech priorities last year.

Fortunately, a recent report may shed some light on how companies can attract and secure top AI talent in the industry.
